Significant Damage Reported in Salton City and Barstow

A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Southern California on Friday night, causing significant damage to buildings and cracking foundations in Salton City and Barstow. The quake was the largest to hit California in years, and was felt as far away as Las Vegas and Phoenix.

The earthquake struck at 8:19 p.m. local time, and was centered about 5 miles northeast of Ridgecrest, California. It was followed by several smaller aftershocks, including a 5.4-magnitude quake that struck about an hour later.

The earthquake caused widespread damage in Salton City and Barstow, with many buildings collapsing or suffering major damage. Roads were also buckled and cracked, and power lines were downed. There were no immediate reports of any deaths or serious injuries, but several people were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.
