Red-hot Mitoma Returns For Japan In World Cup Qualifiers

Kaoru Mitoma, the in-form Brighton and Hove Albion winger, has been recalled to the Japan squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The 25-year-old has been in sparkling form for his club this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in his last six Premier League appearances.

Mitoma, who was born in Kawasaki, Japan, made his international debut in 2021 and has scored two goals in nine appearances for his country.

Japan are currently top of Group B in the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

They have won all four of their matches so far and are two points clear of second-placed Australia.

Japan will face Oman away on March 24 and then take on China at home five days later.

The top two teams in each group will qualify automatically for the World Cup, while the two third-placed teams will enter a play-off for a chance to reach the tournament.
